GSM remote monitoring works over the mobile network . They use 2G and 3G (phase out), GPRS and 4G (LTE) and 5G. GSM controllers are not only used in places without Ethernet connection, but where the connection via the mobile network is mandatory. Several GSM controllers have a built-in WEB server for easy setup, and do not need a special software. Some GSM controllers have MTM protocols such as HTTP record with XML / JSON status files, and HTTP API commands and both data collector and remote control, although they do not have public static IP address.
Some GSM controllers are set up using SMS commands. Some support email client with TLS encryption to send email alert under alarm conditions. Along with emails, the warning can also be sent as standard SMS. GSM controllers have standard analog inputs for DC voltage measurements, as well as digital inputs for contact monitoring and several have 1-Wire interface that supports up to 8 sensors.
Relays can be activated either remotely via SMS or HTTP API or locally.
HTTP content can be sent periodically or at previously set alarm conditions. This is very useful in client-server systems for GSM GPRS remote monitoring and control as part of SCADA computer systems.
